Opportunities with Youth & Children

Please consider getting involved with our children and youth! If you are already volunteering, please know how appreciated you are and how valuable you are to our kids’ faith journeys.
This list is meant to come alongside what’s already in place by helping to fill gaps and support everyone who is already serving.

Opportunities with Children

Sunday school or Wednesday night teacher
- Commit to Sundays at 10am or Wednesdays at 6:30pm to teach. Materials and curriculum are provided and I can go over it with you if you’d like.
Sunday school or Wednesday night pair
- Same as above but you can trade off with a partner.
Sunday school/Wed. night sub
- Get notified ASAP with the date and age level needed if a Sunday school/Wed. night teacher has to be out (sickness, vacation, etc.). Lesson and materials provided.
Drivers
- Van (No CDL required)
- Bus (CDL and Passenger Endorsement required. Ask Kelly for details if you are willing to get those. Can be done in 16 days or within a year from the start date)
- All driving is on an as-needed basis according to events and location.

Chaperone
- On an as-needed basis. Help corral children, make sure everyone has what they need, and be a second set of hands.
- Opportunities for both at church and outside of church.
- Bonus points if you’ll drive and be a chaperone.
Sponsor
- Donate to FUMKids any amount you feel led to. Money goes to activities such as Children’s Choir, materials/snacks, and our fun summer activities.
VBS
- Teacher. Curriculum is provided. Lead a short lesson and activity nightly for each group during the week.
- Group leader. Walk with your group of kids to each location. Stay with them and help with anything needed.
- Kitchen help. Help cook dinner and serve the kids.
- Cleanup crew.
- Decorating. Includes some or all according to your preference and comfort level - rolling tape, tracing, cutting, painting, wall hanging, ladder standing.
Host
- Do you have a pool or large space we could borrow for out of church fun?
Children’s Choir
- Do you have any musical talents? We love to sing, play instruments, and learn new things that can help us worship!
Children’s Christmas Play
- Costume design
- Set design
- Theatre techniques
- Child wranglers needed ;)

Hominess/fun stuff wishlist
- See Kelly for our wishlist. It includes things we’d like but don’t need such as decor, games, and outdoor fun.

Wednesday life lesson
- Is there anything you feel really good at or particularly knowledgeable about? Is there something you really wish you had been taught as a teen? Are you really passionate about your job or is there a special skill that you have? We’d love to learn from you one Wednesday night! (Please coordinate with Kelly ahead of time on dates)
Hang time tutor or chaperone
- Are you interested in getting to know our mid-youth and youth better? We’d love to have you hang out with us from 3pm until dinner time on Wednesday nights!
- Are you interested in tutoring kids who need help with homework or are trying to get a GED or better ACT score?
- Do you make really yummy snacks or want to purchase drinks/snacks for us? The after school hunger is real.
Chaperone
- On an as needed basis. Help corral preteens/teens, make sure everyone has what they need, help with any foolishness, and be a second set of hands.
- Opportunities for both at church and outside of church.
- Veritas (one weekend usually in February. Location changes)
- Assembly (M-F at the end of July @ Hendrix college)
- Youth trip (During the summer. Dates and locations change)
- Bonus points if you agree to chaperone and also drive.
Sponsor
- Donate to FUMC Youth for whatever you feel led to give. We use the money for things like mission work, meals for the group, snacks and drinks for Wednesday nights, and trips (both ACCYM and fun)
- Sponsor a kid’s trip. Some of our teens could use assistance in getting to go to events both with ACCYM and our group. Sponsors are appreciated for as little as $20 to go out with us or up to $250 for them to attend an overnight event.
Host
- Do you have a pool or large space we could borrow for fun outside of church?
Food
- We love to eat! A home-cooked meal, delivered meal, or funds for us to buy ingredients to cook as a group downstairs.
Yard Sale
- Donations of items to sell
- Cashiers
- Pricers of items being sold
- Organizing donated items
- Helping hang clothes
Fall Carnival
- Cake walk donations
- Donations for decor are always appreciated
Youth Room Homeiness/fun
- See Kelly for the wishlist. It includes items such as outdoor toys, decor, and fun stuff that we don’t need but would like to have.
