(We believe in being the hands and feet of Jesus! FUMC Sheridan is involved in many missions in our community, like these:
Backpack Program: Every week, members of our church meet at one of the schools in Sheridan to pack backpacks for students to take home over the weekend. These provide them with non-perishable food they can prepare easily, if necessary, giving them nourishment while they are away from the two meals received each school day. This vital ministry runs strictly on donations, and we project the costs for this school year of 2019-2020 will be $27,000. Those who would like to help but cannot be there to pack may contribute financially by marking their offering envelope “Backpack Program.” The program coordinator is Dee Ann Daniel.
Summer Feeding Program: This is a major effort through the Grant County Ministerial Alliance to feed the hungry in our area throughout the summer when students are not in school. In Summer 2019, the Alliance provided 13,862 meals at an average of just over 340 meals per day. A total of 13 churches in Grant County and the East End community either provided volunteers or donations, with 2,000 volunteer hours used to distribute lunches. Since the summer feeding program began in 2014, we have issued a total of 42,000 meals. To continue this program that is essential to eliminate hunger in our community, your assistance through financial donations and volunteers is critical. Feeding children in our community in the summer of 2019 required $38,000. You can mark your offering envelope “Summer Feeding Program” for financial contributions, and if you would like to volunteer, please contact Judy Green. Mission Team: The Mission team goes out into the community to make wheelchair ramps for anyone who needs one for their home. They also help with maintenance work at Faith House at Keeping the Faith Women’s Shelter, as well as other community service projects. Led by Sam Green.
Throughout the year, groups in our church participate in events such as the Grant County Christmas parade, where we distribute books to young children; the Dragon Boat Festival to raise money for the Children's Protection Center; bell ringers for the Salvation Army during the Christmas season, as well as many others activities where we can serve in mission and ministry.
